A Sonnet by Hans Cheetham

A joke I say is misunderstood,
In my youth, my jokes made me pay…
Tho’ the jokes got some really laughing!
My words are twisted and misconstrued,
Misinterpreted as just rude,
And others laugh, joke, and have a ball!

Jokes reminiscent of the old ways…
It got some to start criticizing,
My sense of humor is not for all.
Perhaps, I just lack that noble grace.
A scowl is on some of their faces,
Their fuming…
